This is a fun little blog someone pointed me to recently ... and since I love taking pics off my balcony, I sent them one right away! Check out the worldwide collection of views from home!
You may have heard that Canada is famous for producing entertaining and well-researched documentary movies on every subject under the sun, but usually nature- or sociology-related. This one was conceived and written by a Victoria man with a Master's degree in Anthropology, so, um, I guess it counts ... ah what the hell it's about the history and culture of heavy metal music!!! I tried to write something more ... um ... educated, but I am far too drunk.
Curly & Boz came up with the bright idea of sharing music on Box.net. Here's 20 songs specially picked by me for funky freshness.
Stereolab - I picked this one because the lyrics "Into outer space" seemed a nice intro.
Then I went for some high-energy loud songs ... hence the next two.
Followed that up with some dancing/rockin' tunes, but since they are in m4a format, you won't hear them unless you download. The onboard mp3 player skips them. Tired of Waking Up Tired is a classic punk anthem from a Toronto band, but don't let that stop you ... it is awesome.
Metric are also a Toronto band ... in this millenium.
Guided By Voices ... well, I couldn't leave them off the list, so I put in one of their rollicking numbers. Black Wings is one of the most haunting, beautiful songs ever, so when I came to the Tom Waits section of my music collection, shoop! in it went, even though it is a bit different in style than the rest of the list. All I Need ... soooo romantic. I almost made a whole mix of makeout music, because I have a crush on this guy I know who looks just like Clive Owen and all sexy songs remind me of him. *sigh* but I restrained myself.
Then I picked up the pace again with a few booty-shaking tunes. Streetlife is one of my favourite karaoke numbers to do :) Rise Up is another relic of my youth in Toronto ... hey, just be grateful I didn't include Echo Beach! (Toronto joke.)
And then I take you out on a mellow note. Las Vegas Basement is one of the greatest songs ever that no-one has ever heard ... and now you have heard it!
Something about wearing gallons of makeup and a goldilocks wig in my latest acting job ... possibly the constant stream of compliments ... has got me thinking about changing my look. I am taking it slow ... so far I have changed the part in my hair and started wearing eyeshadow ... and tonight, I am shopping for perfume on Demeter Fragrance Library.
I love this line of fragrances. So far I have ordered Dirt, Gingerale, Gin & Tonic, Laundromat and Bonfire. They smell like they sound.
I am trying to avoid a lot of food/candy smells, but I figured there could be one or two people on Buzznet who might enjoy smearing some Dulce de Leche on themselves ... have fun with that eh?
My friend & neighbour, who left Vancouver only two months ago to volunteer in Kenya, is now trapped by post-election violence and gave this report to CNN. She doesn't even sound like her usual confident self in this recording ... I am keeping my fingers crossed for her.
She sent out this e-mail earlier today:
Hi everyone,
Of all the news networks in the world I would have rather not given CNN the pleasure of my voice. But nevertheless here it is; a live interview on CNN about what's happening in Kenya. A fellow volunteer Jayne Samuels also provided an I-Report and pictures. They're fairly easy to find.
